چکیده

The principal long-term objective of this work is to determine what factors control the distribution and dynamics of the chromophore-containing constituents of dissolved organic matter (CDOM) in marine and estuarine waters. Two important secondary objectives are 1) to elucidate the photochemical properties of the CDOM and how photochemical reactions affect the optical properties and secondary reactivity of the CDOM, 2) to obtain a clearer understanding of the nature of the underlying lightabsorbing constituents that produce the absorption spectrum of the CDOM. Field measurements are employed to determine the distribution of CDOM and its impact on the aquatic light field, whereas a combination of field and laboratory experiments are used to test mechanisms of its formation and loss. Model systems and spectroscopic methods are being employed to probe the nature of the constituents giving rise to the observed absorption spectrum of CDOM.

CDOM retrieval using measurements of downwelling irradiance [8888-17]

As it can strongly influence the availability of light and thus primary production, coloured dissolved organic matter (CDOM) affects the function of lake ecosystems. Therefore reliable methods are required for the monitoring of CDOM concentration. A new method using downwelling irradiance was tested for applicability in four selected lakes of the Bavarian Osterseen Lake District, which consists...

The Potential Applications of Real-Time Monitoring of Water Quality in a Large Shallow Lake (Lake Taihu, China) Using a Chromophoric Dissolved Organic Matter Fluorescence Sensor

This study presents results from field surveys performed over various seasons in a large, eutrophic, shallow lake (Lake Taihu, China) using an in situ chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM) fluorescence sensor as a surrogate for other water quality parameters. These measurements identified highly significant empirical relationships between CDOM concentration measured using the in situ flu...

A finite element model to simulate magnetic field distribution and laboratory studies in wet low-intensity magnetic separator

Low-intensity magnetic separators are widely used in the research works and the industry. Advancement in the magnetic separation techniques has led to an expansion in the application of this method in different fields such as enrichment of magnetic mineral, wastewater treatment, and medicine transfer in the human body. In the mineral processing industry, the main application of wet magnetic sep...

Terrestrial CDOM in Lakes of Yamal Peninsula: Connection to Lake and Lake Catchment Properties

In this study, we analyze interactions in lake and lake catchment systems of a continuous permafrost area. We assessed colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM) absorption at 440 nm (a(440)CDOM) and absorption slope (S300–500) in lakes using field sampling and optical remote sensing data for an area of 350 km2 in Central Yamal, Siberia. Applying a CDOM algorithm (ratio of green and red band refle...

Next generation Advanced Laser Fluorometry (ALF) for characterization of natural aquatic environments: new instruments.

The new optical design allows single- or multi-wavelength excitation of laser-stimulated emission (LSE), provides optimized LSE optical collection for spectral and temporal analyses, and incorporates swappable modules for flow-through and small-volume sample measurements. The basic instrument configuration uses 510 nm laser excitation for assessments of chlorophyll-a, phycobiliprotein pigments,...
